Sisters and Central Oregon are digging out from a serious winter storm.  The storm dumped record amounts of snow beginning on February 24, more than two weeks ago.  The storm brought downed trees, avalanches on the mountain passes, collapsed roofs, school and government closures, automobile accidents and very cold temperatures.  In fact, Sisters dipped below zero last night… brrr.  The last storm of this magnitude was two years earlier, in February 2017, then dubbed “snowmageddon”.  The 2019 storm has been aptly dubbed by some as Snowmageddon II.  As the temperatures warm to the mid-40s, we can expect to see snow melting as spring begins soon, with the Spring Equinox on March 20.  I know that most central Oregonians will welcome spring, although winter sports enthusiasts may be sad to see such an epic skiing and snowboarding year come to a close.

Spring brings so much renewal and growth, along with warmer temperatures and long sunny days.  You don’t have to wait until the Spring Equinox to get out of the “cabin” and join in community events.  The Sisters Science Fair is a great way to support youth in the Sisters community.  Join in this interesting and educational event on March 16, 2019 from noon until 4 pm at Sisters High School, 1700 W. McKinney Butte Rd, Sisters. This event is free to everyone and will entice all ages from preschool to senior citizens with hands-on learning, exhibits and competitions. OMSI will present a spectacular planetarium to dazzle star gazers. St. Charles has a CPR learning presentation along with health and career information. There will be balloon launches, paper airplane competition and a Design, Construct and Compete contest.

Come out on March 16 to the Sisters Science Fair and stay tuned here for more upcoming events in Sisters Country.  While you are here, don’t forget to stop in for a visit at Sisters Saloon and Ranch Grill.  We are proud to share this classic 1912 bar and family friendly restaurant where you can enjoy great food and drinks while relaxing in a uniquely historic setting.
